Adult & Community Education Programs
The following programs are available through Southeastern's Office of Adult & Community Education:

 
These programs are available at various times and locations throughout the college district, including on SIC's main campus near Harrisburg, at the SIC White County Center in Carmi, and at locations in Gallatin, Pope and Hardin counties. The College recognizes that education is a lifelong process and strives to meet the needs of the community and to help develop the potential ability of all individuals. It recognizes the importance of each segment of the community to its mission and encourages interest and participation in the fulfillment of that mission through a variety of programs directed toward the adult learner.
 

The College offers a variety of community education or non-credit courses through the college district. These include classes of a hobby, leisure, or non-traditional nature and are offered in a flexible manner upon availability of instructors and public demand. The College also offers one-day trips to various destination within the immediate tri-state area.

Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education /GED

The College offers free courses in ADULT BASIC EDUCATION and GED in all counties of the district in the Fall and Spring semesters. Courses included under the ABE/GED program include basic workforce entry skills. Students can improve basic skills, prepare for the GED exam, increase employability, or prepare to enter a college or career program.

An alternative to in-class GED instruction is now being offered through SIC. Students wishing to take Online GED classes must meet the following requirements to qualify: 8.9 or higher TABE scores, meet with program coordinator and attend orientation with instructor. The College frequently hosts seminars, workshops and drive-in conferences for special population groups and the general public. The topics range from consumer, educational and business interests to those of a more hobby or leisure time activities. The College is willing to work with outside organizations in cooperative planning and development of programs to meet their particular needs. An estimated 11,000 people utilize the College annually for different events and activities.

 SIC Volunteer Corps.

SIC's Volunteer Corps is open to any student or member of the community who wishes to serve on an unpaid voluntary basis either at the College, in the community or with an area agency, institution or business. The purpose of volunteer service is to raise the consciousness of the individual volunteer, as well as those served, by the difference that giving of one's time and effort can mean for themselves and others.

A student or community member may enroll in a course entitled VOL 121 - Volunteer Service. A person may earn one (1) credit hour of Pass/Fail college credit each semester for 32 contact hours of unpaid service. There is not tuition charge for enrolling in this course.
