Week of the Young Child Celebrated at SIC
April 9, 2015
Southeastern Illinois College president Dr. Jonah Rice joined some of the children and teachers in SIC’s Mary Jo Oldham Center for Child Study this week to sign a proclamation declaring the official “Week of the Young Child™” April 12-18.
The Week of the Young Child ™ is an annual national celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The special week recognizes the importance of quality child care, children and their families, and the programs that serve them.
Special activities are planned throughout the week, including a special week-long art display in the SIC Art Gallery with art from each child on display. A Children’s Art Exhibit reception will be held in their honor in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 16, 4-6 p.m. There was also a mini-parade to help raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and there will be dress-up days with special themes: spirit day, crazy socks and crazy hair day, old fashion day, western day, and pajama day.
