Outdoor Firearms Range
SIC has a new covered firing line at its firearms range used by law enforcement for police training and for concealed carry training, and it is now open to the public!
The covered building houses six stalls and is accessible via a concrete pad. The covered portion makes up only half of the overall range. The other half of the range consists of open ground – useful for law enforcement to set up barrels and other obstacles for situational training.
The range allows for shooting targets from distances up to 50 yards. There are no restrictions on the caliber of gun able to be used at the range.
Safety is a top priority and the range satisfies all ordnances and regulations. The covered firing line is also handicap accessible.
Who may use the facility?
Anyone possessing a valid FOID card may use the facility. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a hunter safety card and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian possessing a valid FOID card.
What should I bring?
Participants should bring their FOID card, ammunition, safety glasses, and ear protection. The first target is provided, and additional targets are $1 each. Registration and payment can be made on-site during hours of operation.
The Firing Range is located on the far east end of campus in the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex behind the Indoor Archery Center. From College Road, take the South entrance to campus and follow the far right driving lane. Go through the parking lot and straight through onto the gravel drive into the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex, and follow that road back to the Archery Center and Firing Range.
