POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility for the Curator’s duties is to oversee operations of the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art.  General duties include execution of Museum mission and function, as well as adherence to planning.  Administrative and creative responsibilities are expected.  Events Assistant duties include assistance with planning, promoting, and managing a broad spectrum of campus activities and programs which will cultivate a vibrant/active experience and help to nurture student leadership and community development. This position is largely endowed by private funds, generously made through the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art Fund, donated by William C. and the late James C. Hise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 
1.  Fulfill the mission and goals of the Ella Elizabeth Hise Regional Art Museum and Southeastern Illinois College.
2.  Curatorial coordination including installations and de-installations.
3. Organize, lead, and implement the Operational and Collection Committee (OCC) and all its functions.
4.  Oversee assigned staff and student workers/assistants to fulfill their responsibilities.
5. Oversee the budget for the Museum, including operational budget.
6. Lead and/or assist in fundraising activities for the Museum.
7. Maintain oversight of a quality physical appearance of the Museum.
8. Foster and build opportunities for educational endeavors, including any credit bearing courses.
9. Oversee opening and closing procedures and ensure the smooth operation of the museum during public hours, including greeting visitors or those inquiring about the Museum.
10. Help ensure security of the items on display during public hours.
11. Help maintain Museum website and other social media sites.
12. Assist with writing and editing grants, press releases and exhibition text as allowed.
13. Research artists and the exhibition history of artworks, create exhibition documentation, correspond with artists, and other tasks that contribute to developing exhibitions.
14. Document art objects, and make the collection available to students and faculty in a learning environment.
15. Act as Museum docent.
16. Coordinate and implement campus events and activities as assigned.
17. Provide functional event support and management for student activities and social events.
18. Oversee and assist in developing activities, events and programs designed for social, cultural, and instructional development, including cultural arts series and related events.
19. Assist supervisors with campus activities and events.
20. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, relevant experience encouraged.

Salary

$20/hr with benefits.
