Director of Support Services (Plant Operations/Maintenance) and Life Safety

Description

The Director of Support Services will oversee the daily functions of the Maintenance and Environmental Services staff whose duties include ensuring the safety, functionality, cleanliness, and appearance of all hospital district buildings and grounds. The Director will ensure that the quality of workmanship is of a professional caliber, will maintain schedules to meet the hours of the facility, and provide assistance to employees, contractors, physicians, and administrative staff.  The Director of Support Services will be responsible for insuring regulatory and accreditation compliances and continuous readiness for inspections.  The Director will also be responsible for chairing the hospital districts Safety Committee as the Life Safety Director.  The Life Safety Director in conjunction with the Clinical Safety Director is appointed in writing and reports directly to the CEO in all safety-related matters.  The Life Safety Director has the authority to stop any process or activity which imminently endangers the safety of patients, staff or visitors.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree preferred.  Technical knowledge of engineering principles and maintenance practices required, advanced training is preferred. 
  • Five to ten years of experience servicing commercial, and industrial boilers, chillers, generators, and other equipment required. 
  • Two years active Facilities management/supervisory experience in a hospital, industrial, or commercial setting including evaluation of personnel, scheduling, task layout, and running preventative maintenance systems is preferred. 
  • Previous experience with OSHA, NFPA, and JOINT COMMISSION is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical sections of building and safety codes is required. 
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools effectively and safely. 
  • Must be able to understand and interpret plans and drawings and be able to accomplish tasks from these plans/drawings. 
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Must be able to function effectively with frequent interruptions.
  • Computer usage is required to operate preventive maintenance systems and work on project reports.
  • Experience with PLC’s and Microsoft programs is required.
