Mental Health Counselor


This full-time administrative exempt position reports directly to the Executive Dean for Student Services. This position offers confidential emotional counseling and consultation as well as developmental and educational support to students in the form of short-term personal counseling. This position also provides appropriate crisis intervention referrals to outside professionals and is responsible for proactive education regarding mental health awareness. This position works closely with students, faculty, and staff to provide a student-centered service. Must maintain a high standard of ethics and confidentiality in accordance with federal, state, and professional regulations.

Note: This is a shared position with Rend Lake College through the Intergovernmental Alliance between the two colleges but may change according to need and mutual agreement. 


Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) clinical certification required.  

Certification to practice in the state of Illinois or ability to become certified in the state of Illinois required. Previous clinical experience in a professional setting is required. College or university experience preferred. Have sensitivity to understand the diversity of community college students’ academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds. Must have experience with assessments, creating and carrying out treatment plans, providing evidence-based interventions, and proper termination processes.  


The starting salary ranges from $50,000 based on degree and experience.
