DESCRIPTION:Excerpt from www.history.com: \nPresidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington\, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Traditionally celebrated on February 22—Washington’s actual day of birth—the holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act\, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington\, Abraham Lincoln and other figures\, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.

You must attend an advisement meeting to apply for the program prior to March 31. You do not need to make an appointment to attend. Show up at a date and time that works best for you. Advisement meetings will last approximately 1 hour and students must be present for the entire meeting. DESCRIPTION:The first 10 students to submit essays receive a free gift card to the SIC Coffee Shoppe! \n \nAttention current SIC students! The Illinois Community College Trustees Association’s annual Paul Simon Essay Contest provides a $500 scholarship to the student who best describes “How My Community College Has Changed My Life.” \nCONTEST RULES\nEach essay must be brief (less than 500 words)\, typed\, and address the theme “How My Community College Has Changed My Life.” Entrants may use “How My Community College Has Changed My Life” as the essay’s title or create their own title related to the theme.\n\n\nDEADLINE\n\nEssays are due in SIC’s Office of Academic Affairs (C203) no later than FEBRUARY 28\, 2025. The local winner will receive a $50.00 award and the right to compete in the statewide contest. SIC will submit the local winning essay to the ICCTA for participation in the statewide contest.
