SIC Board of Trustees Celebrate Archery Champions
The Southeastern Illinois College Board of Trustees met last night and were presented with national championship trophies from the College’s national championship archery team.
Coaches Archie Blair and Darin DeNeal told the board of the team’s successes at the national tournament at University of Missouri over the weekend.
“SIC defeated teams from Penn State, University of Wisconsin, and Michigan,” said head coach Blair.
A special recognition ceremony and cake reception will be held for the team on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at noon in the student center cafeteria. The team is also coached by Roger Snodgrass of M and R Bowstrings.

Donna Hearn was recognized as the October Employee Spotlight. Hearn has served for 13 years at SIC, currently as Community Outreach Supervisor, and previously in the Displaced Homemakers program.
Greg McCulloch, chief information officer, proposed a lease agreement to upgrade the College’s current information backup systems. The lease agreement is with IBM and was a budgeted expense for this fiscal year that will be spread out over five years to reduce fiscal impact.
Non-action items discussed at the meeting included a new campus concealed carry policy as well as the alumni and friends by-laws.
The board will engage action on the concealed carry policy at its December meeting.
The Alumni and Friends Association by-law requirement for board approval was discussed and the administration was charged to engage the association with ideas on membership that decentralizes the board’s role regarding nominations.
In personnel matters, professional and administrative staff were given the same 2.75 percent cost of living increase as classified and custodial staff had recently received. The administration will maintain their current level of health insurance contribution.
The board employed Shirley Malone as the part-time food service assistant, and approved multiple adjunct positions.
