Kids’ Fair Goes Patriotic at SIC on April 15

Red, white and blue, stars and stripes, and flags everywhere, Southeastern Illinois College is hosting a Patriotic Kids’ Fair this year.
April 15, 4-6 p.m. is the date and time for this year’s fair. The free event, made possible through a community partnership with Egyptian Health Department, Harrisburg Medical Center, WADI Head Start, and Harrisburg District Library, is for children ages 0-5th grade. Registration is in B/C lobby with games and information in Deaton Gym and B-hall.
Community vendors representing 25-30 public agencies, civic organizations and local businesses will provide fun activities, games and prizes for the children. There will be a life-sized Statue of Liberty and a photo op area, so bring your camera or cell phone. The fair is designed to help promote reading, education, health, nutrition and safety in a fun manner.
Free food will be served in the SIC student center/cafeteria provided by WADI, Harrisburg Medical Center, Pepsi MidAmerica and SIC.
New this year is a free program presented by the Science Center of Southern Illinois in Carbondale. The Center will provide Hover Craft Rides in the private dining room in the southeast corner of the cafeteria.
Little Obie, a scale model of a real locomotive and caboose, will again thrill kids of all ages with rides around campus. Little Obie is sponsored by the Canadian National Railway. We expect to have a fire truck, police car and possibly an ambulance that the children can look inside and talk with the drivers.
This event is provided by the Community Education Department at Southeastern Illinois College. For more information call 252-5400 Ext. 3213.
