Top High School Archers Compete at SIC

Students from five area high schools competed in Southeastern Illinois College’s first high school invitational 3D archery tournament held earlier this spring. Named top archer in the women’s division was Alli Armstrong (center right) from Hardin County. Top men’s division honors went to Bradford Sauls (center left) from Norris City-Omaha-Enfield. The team championship was won by Hardin County High School. Eldorado, Carmi, and Gallatin County rounded out the field.
Presenting trophies to Armstrong and Sauls were members of Southeastern Illinois College’s 2014 national championship team: l-r, Clayton Hall from Grayville, Kira McCalip from Rantoul, Cody Nelson from Carmi, and Casey Poe from Arthur.
SIC archery coach Archie Blair was pleased with the turnout at this year’s tournament. “This was an opportunity for our coaches to see firsthand students from the area who may end up shooting for Southeastern’s archery team. It’s largely from this pool that will determine the future success of 3D archery at SIC.”
Blair noted that SIC has won eight national collegiate championships in just three years and has crowned 12 All-Americans while competing against such Division I giants as Michigan State University, Purdue, Penn State, and University of Wisconsin.
