Musical with Ugly Duckling will make audience “Quack Up”
The musical adventures of the Ugly Duckling will be on display this weekend when Honk! takes to the stage at the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center at Southeastern Illinois College.
The cast and crew featuring 50 area students between the ages of 5-17 years old have spent a little over one month putting the show together over their summer vacation.
“This is really a cute show that younger kids will love and parents will find lots of humor in as well,” said Junior Falcon Productions director Hannah Naas Drake. “It should be a great couple of hours of family fun and everyone should come away with a smile on their face.”
Harrisburg High School consumer education instructor Janet Hart and Equality’s Gareth York have developed an exciting array of costumes, and Drake says a total group effort has made the performance possible.
“With Janet and Gareth’s creativity, the costumes will again stand out and help make this a wonderful show. Plus, Melody Ossi has been so helpful with her work with vocals and we’ve had a ton of parent support behind the scenes.”
Members of the cast include students from Harrisburg, Eldorado, Carrier Mills, Gallatin County, Norris City and even Vandalia. Past Junior Falcon shows have included Shrek, Annie and Cinderella.
The performance is sponsored through Southeastern Illinois College and features a live orchestra. Performances will be Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, July 26.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and will be available at the door one hour before the show.
