A cartoon favorite is reborn and brought to life onstage by Southeastern Illinois College’s production of Snoopy: The Musical. The show will have one performance only on Oct. 9 in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center.
This musical comedy by Larry Grossman and Hal Hackady, with a book by Warren Lockhart, Arthur Whitelaw and Michael Grace uses characters from the classic Charles M. Schulz comic strip Peanuts and focuses more on the life of the world’s most famous beagle, Snoopy, played by Kyle Upchurch of Energy.
Additional roles include Jayden Roper (Harrisburg) as Charlie Brown; Jessica Barnes (Carrier Mills) as Frieda; Caleb Abbott (Benton) as Linus; Collins Lambert (Harrisburg) as Lucy; Sydney Whitlock (Eldorado) as Marcie; Madison Miller (Eldorado) as Peppermint Patty; Auston Mahan (Harrisburg) as Pigpen; Reagan Gray (Eldorado) as Sally; Cory Garman, SIC music instructor, as Schroeder; Cassandra Watkins (Harrisburg) as Violet; and Rheanna Pearce (Norris City) as Woodstock.
Allan Kimball, director of theatre and co-division chair of humanities at Southeastern said, “Snoopy is the sequel to You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and follows the adventures of Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang. The show is a delight for the entire family. Come watch your favorite cartoon come to life.”
Aaron McRoy of Harrisburg will be the stage manager for Snoopy and the show’s set design is the product of the cast and members of Kimball’s stage craft class at SIC. Lighting design is by Kyle Upchurch, and costumes will be designed by Janet Hart and Gareth York. John Hart of Hart’s Music in Harrisburg will once again provide the sound equipment.
The Friday performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center. General admission is $10. Cost for students, staff, and seniors is $8.
