SIC Offers Help to 2020 College Students Applying for FAFSA
Students attending college in 2020-2021 may begin completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as Oct. 1, 2019. This allows students’ financial aid process to coincide with the college admissions application process. Students and families will use their 2018 income information to complete the FAFSA.
To help with what some students deem a daunting process, Southeastern Illinois College’s Financial Aid Office is holding workshops at SIC for current SIC students while also visiting area high schools and assisting high school seniors and their families with completing the FAFSA.
“These workshops are a vital resource for our incoming freshmen, their parents and our continuing students,” said SIC Financial Aid Director, Michelle Metten. “The workshops will allow students one-on-one time with our staff members to help guide them through the FAFSA process.”
Southeastern’s campus open workshops will be Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 21, from 5-7 p.m. in the Student Success Center, Room A150. Students are encouraged to visit any time during those hours to learn more and have help filling out their FAFSA.
Those attending the workshops need to bring their and their parent’s 2018 tax returns and W2 forms, their Social Security card and their driver’s license.
As always, the FAFSA is free to apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
High School seniors can visit www.sic.edu/fafsa to see when their school is holding a FAFSA workshop or contact the Financial Aid Office at Southeastern to schedule an appointment to complete the FAFSA in October. The Financial Aid Office is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information call 618.252.5400 ext. 4110 or email fao@sic.edu.
