SIC Students Participate in International SYATP Event
Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC) at Southeastern Illinois College joined with other student ministries across the globe on Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, as they hosted the annual See You at the Pole™ (SYATP) event.
SIC student and musician Alysha Mott of Simpson led worship with a couple of songs on her guitar, and SIC student Shanna Rone of Carrier Mills led the devotional time. This year’s theme was from 2 Chronicles 7:14 – if … If my people pray. Rone also finished by leading the prayer circle. The event concluded with doughnuts and fellowship.
According to the website, www.syatp.org, “See You at the Pole™ is a global movement of prayer which is student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led. It revolves around students praying together on the fourth Wednesday in September, usually before school and usually at the school’s flagpole. It involves student in elementary schools, middle/junior high schools, high schools, and colleges/universities across the globe. Adults often pray in support of the students on campus by gathering nearby, at their places of work or worship, or at city halls.”
SYATP started with a single youth group in Burleson, Texas, in 1990. Since that time, the event has grown to include millions of students internationally.
