SIC Firearms Range Opening to Public
HARRISBURG, Ill. (Sept. 4, 2020) – The firearms range at Southeastern Illinois College, one of many facilities located within the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex, will now have the opportunity for more footprints to walk its grounds. Beginning Sept. 9, the range will be open to the public for 10 dates this year, with the final day of public use being Dec. 13.
Safety is a top priority and the range satisfies all ordnances and regulations. The covered firing line is also wheelchair accessible. Those who wish to use the facility must possess a valid FOID card. Participants under the age of 18 must have a hunter safety card and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian possessing a valid FOID card. In addition to their FOID card, participants will need to provide their own ammunition, safety glasses and ear protection. Eye and ear protection are required to be worn at all times. Masks are required on campus indoors and for those outside who cannot distance 12 feet apart or more.
The range allows for shooting targets from distances up to 50 yards. The first target is provided free, and additional targets may be bought for an additional $1.
Charge to use the range is $7 per half-hour and $12 per hour, however participants may purchase unlimited time during operating hours for $80 this semester. Registration and payment can be made on-site during hours of operation.

The covered firing line houses six stalls for individuals to shoot from and is accessible via a concrete pad. There are no restrictions on the caliber of gun able to be used at the range.
The Firing Range is located on the far east end of campus in the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex behind the Indoor Archery Center. From College Road, take the South entrance to campus and follow the far right driving lane. Go through the parking lot and straight through onto the gravel drive into the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex, and follow that road back to the Archery Center and Firing Range.
