Three SIC Softball Players Recognized as All American Scholar Athletes
Three Southeastern Illinois College softball players have been recognized as All-American Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association: Paige Munds of Eldorado, Andrea Roberts of Marion, and Madison Ladd of Thompsonville. To qualify, the students had to carry a 3.5 GPA or higher for the fall and spring semesters.
A number of other softball players just missed this recognition, but have been recognized by SIC for their academic efforts this spring. Paige Munds of Eldorado made the President’s List with a 4.0 GPA. Madison Galloway of DeSoto, Janessa Laney of Marion, Andrea Roberts of Marion, Jordan Daming of Rockport, Indiana, and Madison Ladd of Thompsonville made the Vice President’s List with a GPA of 3.25-3.99. Mya King of Harrisburg and Kenedi Simon of Murphysboro earned above a 3.0.
“Academics is something that we take seriously as softball players at SIC,” said head softball coach Maggie Calcaterra. “While we are blessed to be able to play a wonderful sport, we are at SIC to receive an education. We incorporate mandatory study tables into our weekly schedule to ensure students strive to do their best. This practice and other standards are procedures that our future teams will continue to follow.”
Southeastern’s softball team is an NJCAA Division I team. Coach Calcaterra is still accepting committed and dedicated walk-ons for fall. Softball activities begin in August with a limited preseason schedule this fall and full season in spring. For more information, contact Calcaterra at 618-252-5400 ext. 2212 or m.calcaterra@sic.edu.
