Falcon Archers Gain a Clay Breaker

Kegan Burt from Hamilton County, an award-winning member of the 2020-21 Southeastern Illinois College Clay Breakers Trapshooting Team has signed his intent to join the SIC Falcon Archers for the 2021-22 year. He will also remain a member of the Clay Breakers team.
Burt is an accomplished trap shooter. Last year he won high overall shooter twice (once out of 600 shooters), was awarded one of five Gold-Team Member spots for regional competition out of 270 shooters, and finished the 2020-21 season with an average of 98.5 percent between regional and national competitors.
He will continue to be captain of the Clay Breakers for his second year, leading the team to compete in the Grand American World Championship in August and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Central Midwest Championship in October.
Head coach of the Clay Breakers, Jordan Hammersley, says, “Kegan remains one of the most naturally talented shooters I’ve had on my team and one of the most charismatic students I’ve taught so far.”
Burt is enrolled in SIC’s Outfitter Wildlife Management program. He’d like to become a member of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, specifically the Conservation Police. Aside from trapshooting, he has been shooting archery for the past three years. During high school, he participated in FFA, the Fox Fire Trapshooting Team, and Youth For Christ.
In preparing for his upcoming season, he says, “I am ready to compete on the archery team. I look forward to competing at the college level.”
Head coach of the Falcon Archers, Ricky Sauls, says, “I look forward to having Kegan on the team. He is a solid trap shooter, and I think his experience in competing will benefit the archery team.”
The SIC Archery Team started with a small group of students as a pilot program in 2011. Since that time, the Falcon Archers have won national awards against Division I universities, added an indoor facility and indoor team, and host high school tournaments. The team is a member of USA Archery and ASA Archery. For more information about SIC’s Archery team and facilities, visit www.sic.edu/archery or contact ricky.sauls@sic.edu or 618-252-5400, ext. 2248.
