SIC Falcon Archers Have Great Show at Regionals

Southeastern Illinois College’s competitive archery team took home the most awards at the USA Archery 3D North Regional Tournament. The tournament was held on Sept. 25-26 at the SIC’s Indoor Archery Center and 3D Outdoor Range located at the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Educational Complex on the SIC campus. Also competing that day was Wabash Valley College, Rend Lake College, Muskingum University and Hocking College.
The Regional Tournament consisted of individual archers shooting 20 3D targets in the morning and another 20 in the afternoon Saturday. On Sunday, the team competitions were held. Teams competed in four categories: Compound, Bowhunter, Recurve and Barebow. Each category had a men’s and women’s division for a total of eight competitions. In total, SIC took home 17 individual medals and four trophies.
Head coach of the Falcons Ricky Sauls said, “SIC Falcon Archers had the opportunity to host the USA Archery 3-D North Regional September 25-26. The event ran very smooth and all the archers had a good time. This event along with the 3-legged State tournament held this year will prepare all the archers for the national tournament, which will bring in schools from all over the United States. SIC will be competing against 4-year Universities like Texas A & M and University of Wisconsin but I think the Falcon Archers are up for the challenge.”
The SIC Falcon Archers will be traveling to Foley, AL to complete for the USA Archery 3D National Championship that will take place Oct.14-16.
The SIC Archery Team started with a small group of students as a pilot program in 2011. Each year since that time, the Falcon Archers have won national awards against Division I universities, added an indoor facility and indoor team, and host high school tournaments. The team is a member of USA Archery and ASA Archery. For more information about SIC’s Archery team and facilities, visit www.sic.edu/archery.
