SIC Falcon Basketball Earns First Win of the Season
The Southeastern Illinois College Men’s Basketball team defeated Vision Collegiate 99-95 Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Kentucky. The Falcons trailed 43-39 at halftime but staged a second half comeback and led by as many as seven down the stretch before holding on for their first win of the season.
“The first win is always the hardest to get. To come to a city like Lexington where they breathe basketball and come out on top is huge for our program,” said SIC Coach Sam Swinford.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Kevon Williams (New Madrid, Missouri) with 24 points on 10-15 shooting. Herrin, Illinois, product Brandon Anthony followed with 21 points and 7 assists. Bryce Simpson of St. Louis had his first double-double of his college career with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Marshall County native Aaron Reed added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Jermarco Burse Jr. (14 points, 6 rebounds), Carmi’s Peyton Edwards (5 points, 4 rebounds), and Henderson County’s Noah Curry (10 points, 4 assists) rounded out the Falcons’ effort.
“It was a total team effort for us. The guys have been working extremely hard and have shown constant improvement through the first month of the season. We are excited to build off this win and carry momentum into the rest of the season,” said Swinford.
The first home game for the Falcon Men’s Basketball team is Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. against St. Louis Community College in Deaton Gymnasium. For more on the team, visit www.sic.edu/athletics.
