Hardin County Archer Signs with SIC
Ben Flatt has signed his intent to compete with the Southeastern Illinois College Falcon Archers for the 2022-2023 season.
“If you have a dream, chase it because a dream won’t chase you back,” says Flatt.
Flatt is a senior at Hardin County High School and is a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Challenge, Scholar Bowl team, and Baseball team. He is also the current Hardin County FFA President. He plans to major in agriculture at SIC then transfer to SIU or Murray State to finish his Bachelor’s degree.
“Ben is an outstanding student and has a lot of untapped archery potential,” says Ricky Sauls, SIC Archery head coach. “Ben is a great addition to the Falcon Archers team and I am excited to be able to help show him what he can accomplish in archery.”
Hardin County High School officials reflect the same sentiment as Coach Sauls. With his positive demeanor, dedication, and work ethic, they say he will prove to be a great asset to Southeastern Illinois College and the Falcon Archers.
“Ben is an amazing young man. It has been an honor to serve as both his teacher and FFA advisor the past few years,” says John Hall, Hardin County High School Archery Coach and FFA advisor. “Ben has a positive attitude and a “can-do” spirit. He is a superb student and a fine person. His work ethic is through the roof and he is always willing to go above and beyond to help in any way possible. I look forward to watching Ben grow as a student and an athlete at SIC.”
“I am so happy that Ben will have the opportunity to be a part of such an award-winning archery team as the SIC Falcons,” says Susan Armstrong, Hardin County High School Dean of Students.
The SIC Archery Team started with a small group of students as a pilot program in 2011. Since that time, the Falcon Archers have won national awards against Division I universities, added an indoor facility, an indoor team, and host high school tournaments. The team is a member of USA Archery. For more information about SIC’s archery team and facilities, visit www.sic.edu/archery or contact ricky.sauls@sic.edu or 618-252-5400, ext. 2248.
