Industrial Nature Exhibit Coming to Hise Museum
Brandon Smith will display a collection of sculptures at the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art at Southeastern Illinois College during his exhibit, Industrial Nature in the museum’s west gallery. This exhibition will be open to the public Oct. 25 through Nov. 22.
Smith, a native of Carmi and SIC alumnus, has had works displayed in previous exhibits, but this is his first solo exhibition.
“I have enjoyed working with the Hise Museum in the past, so I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to share my work in an exhibition all my own with this amazing museum,” said Smith.
Guests will enjoy sculptures of metal and wood created by Smith, including his large metal sculpture, “Orbit” that is being donated to the museum’s permanent collection. This sculpture will be placed in its permanent home on campus at a later date.
“I always know the work Brandon brings in will be outstanding,” said Melody Bryant, curator for the museum. “He never ceases to amaze me with how dynamic and creative his sculptures are.”
In addition to his sculptures, Smith creates custom lamps and sculptural lighting through 3TEN Design. His work can be found on Facebook at 3TEN Design, or on Instagram @bsmithsculpture and @3_tendesign.
A reception for Smith’s exhibition sponsored by Rice Motor Company and Slay’s Restoration both located in Carmi, will take place on Friday, Oct. 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. featuring wine, cheese, light appetizers, desserts and assorted beer. As always, admission is free and open to the public.
Hours of operation for the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art are Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the first Sunday of the month, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment.
