SIC Board Approves Clean Audit and Reviews Legislative Initiatives
The Southeastern Illinois College Board of Trustees met for its regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m., addressing key institutional updates and approving several items.
Standing reports were presented by board members Dr. Frank Barbre and Jim Ellis, who represent SIC on the Illinois Community College Trustees’ Association (ICCTA). Barbre and Ellis shared insights from the ICCTA meeting held Nov. 15-16 in Schaumburg, Illinois, where trustees approved the Association’s 2025 State Legislative Initiatives and Core Legislative Values. Reports from other statewide working groups were also highlighted.
Additional updates were provided by SIC President Dr. Karen Weiss and the Administrative Cabinet.
In new business, the board unanimously approved the FY24 audit conducted by Kemper CPA. The audit yielded a “clean” result with no findings for the fiscal year.
“This is a great testament to the quality of work and level of commitment shown by our employees at the institution,” said Weiss.
Other items approved during the meeting included:
- Employee health insurance renewal for 2025.
- A policy update for students called to military active duty, in alignment with recent legislative action.
- The Decennial Committee’s final report.
- Curriculum updates and personnel changes.
With no further business to discuss, the board adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
