SIC Board Approves 2025 Tax Levy
The Southeastern Illinois College Board of Trustees met Oct. 21 and approved the 2025 tax levy, which fell below the 5% Truth in Taxation threshold. The new levy reduces the tax burden for district residents to an estimated 50 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation (EAV), down from 56 cents previously.
“The board is pleased to provide relief to district taxpayers while maintaining strong support for college operations,” said Lisa Hite, Vice President of Administrative Services. “This levy reflects careful financial management and our ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility.”
In other action, the board approved a 2026–2027 athletic proposal that reinstates NJCAA Division II status for men’s basketball beginning in fall 2026 and introduces options for co-ed club teams in golf (2026) and cross country (2027).
Non-action items included presentations of the institution’s 2024–2025 assessment report, the 2025 required Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education annual report, the Title III Year 4 external evaluation report, and a first reading of two new board policies and one amended policy.
In other reports, SIC announced that 2024–2025 Practical Nursing graduates achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX exam, matching the Associate Degree Nursing program’s 100% rate. The board also heard updates on campus events including the successful Soar & Explore College Fair on Oct. 16, the upcoming CTE Spotlight Day for high school students on Nov. 13, the Annual Heritage Festival on the first weekend of November, and the Holiday Dinner and showing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” on Nov. 21–22.
Personnel actions included the hiring of Shelby Thompson as full-time Student Success Center Assistant to assist in the College’s testing center.
The next meeting of the SIC Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Rodney J. Brenner Board Room on the Harrisburg campus.
