Transfer and Other Credit
Transfer Credit from Colleges and Universities
- To received transfer credit from a previous postsecondary institution, students must provide an official transcript to SIC.
- SIC will accept transfer credit only from postsecondary institutions which are accredited by a regionally accredited association.
- Credit earned in remedial courses will not be accepted, but can be used for placement purposes.
- Credit hours only will be transferred, not associated grades.
Military Credit
- Veterans submitting a Member 4 copy of their DD214 will receive credit for HYG 121 (Science of Personal Health) and two semester credits of physical education.
- Official Joint Services Transcripts are reviewed by the Registrar, with appropriate credit posted upon reviewing course descriptions.
Credit for Attendance at Correctional Training Facilities
- Individuals who completed the Illinois Department of Corrections Correctional Officers Training Academy or the Federal Bureau of Pisos Training Academy program may be eligible to receive credit for CRJ 213 (Introduction to Corrections) and CRJ 216 (Internship).
- Individuals who completed the Police Training Institute Program may be eligible to receive credit for CRJ 117 (Policy Patrol Procedures), CRJ 211 (Criminal Law II), and CRJ 216 (Internship).
State Seal of Biliteracy Award
- If a student enrolls at SIC and has been awarded the State Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish on their official high school transcript, credit will be given for SPAN 121 (Elementary Spanish I) and SPAN 122 (Elementary Spanish II)
Testing for Credit Options
- The College shall, upon request, grant credit to a student who demonstrates proficiency in a subject by performance on an approved examination, including College Level Advanced Placement (CLEP), Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB). Students shall not be granted more than 29 semester credit hours by examination, with the maximum amount of 15 semester credit hours from IB.
