KIDNEY MOBILE HIGHLIGHTS OCTOBER 23 HEALTH FAIR AT SIC
–PTK Blook Drive 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the VPAC–
A wide variety of vendors addressing a plethora of wellness-related topics will highlight this year’s Health Fair at Southeastern Illinois College. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. until noon. The event will be held in the SIC Student Center in “B” Building.
A big attraction of this year’s Health Fair will be the “Kidney Mobile,” available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, this mobile unit has provided screenings for well over 30,000 Illinois residents. The Kidney Mobile provides free urinalysis, body mass index, glucose testing and other screenings of issues related to kidney health, as well as on-site results and consultations. Screenings will be done in the Student Center, but attendees may tour the Kidney Mobile located outside at the bottom of A/B Lobby stairway.
At press time, booths set to be on hand included: Fountainview Nursing Home, Heartland Women’s Healthcare, Egyptian Health, RIDES, the Bone Marrow Registry, Phoenix Rehab and Nursing Care (Carmi), and Ridgway Rehab. Also, SIC cosmetology and esthetics students will be doing hand dips, skin and scalp analysis and head lice checks.
Flu shots will also be available at an affordable rate provided by Ferrell Hospital. SIC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center Lobby.
Booth spaces are still available for any health-related organizations who wish to present. Those interested in procuring a space for a booth may call Donna Hearn at 252-5400, extension 3213.
