Bereavement Notice: Charles Hearn, Longtime SIC Board Member

Southeastern Illinois College Longtime Board of Trustee Charles “Chuck” Hearn passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, at the age of 66.
Hearn was a long-standing board member who served as trustee for 28 years and served as board chair during his tenure as well as serving on many board committees.
“Mr. Hearn’s passing will be a great loss to the board,” said Dr. Pat York, Southeastern Illinois College Board Chairman. “His service on the Board will be greatly missed.”
Hearn helped guide the College through many events including multiple successful reaccreditation visits, curriculum developments, and construction projects.
“He always prized instruction,” said Board Vice-Chair Gary Allen. “His dedication and love for this College were immeasurable.”
Few trustees reach the quarter of a century service mark according to SIC President Dr. Jonah Rice.
“Mr. Hearn was a genuine public servant who respected the duty of office and sought to promote and protect the College for the entire region,” said Rice.
In his honor and to allow administration, staff and faculty to attend his memorial service, the college will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 3. Some events and services will remain open, including the Child Study Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a scholarship for an SIC student. Donations may be made payable to the SIC Foundation for the Charles Hearn Scholarship, 3575 College Rd., Harrisburg, Illinois 62946.
