State champion signs with SIC men’s basketball
A key member of the state champion South Iron (Annapolis, Missouri) High School basketball team has signed with the SIC men’s basketball program.
JerMarco Burse Jr. signed a letter of intent to play for the Falcons in a ceremony at high school late last month. During his senior season, he helped the Panthers win the Class 1 state title. Overall, the team went 98-16 during his career, won three AV Thanksgiving Tournaments, two Bob Sechrest Jr. Christmas Tournaments, three Black River League Conference Tournament titles, four Black River regular season titles and three district championships.
He was named all-conference and all-district twice. When the Panthers reached the Final Four, Burse, a 6-foot-4 forward, was at his best as he averaged 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to help the team win the state title.
“JerMarco is a winner,” SIC Coach Sam Swinford said. “He knows what it takes to win and he will bring that championship mentality to our program. He is really athletic and can play several positions and can guard any spot on the floor. We expect him to be a big part of what we do this season.”
Burse said he is excited to join the Falcons.
“The connection with the coach and the things he was saying are a lot of the things I was looking for when I was trying to pick a school,” he said. “It all fit really well. His mentality and how he is going to push us to go hard all the time is exactly what I’m used to at South Iron.”
SIC Basketball now competes in the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA), the fastest growing intercollegiate club basketball league in the U.S.
