Falcons down Missouri Baptist, 98-67
The Southeastern Illinois College men’s basketball team won its third game in a row with a convincing 98-67 victory over Missouri Baptist JV Monday night in St. Louis.
The Falcons turned in perhaps their best performance of the season as they jumped out to a 47-28 halftime lead and then pulled away in the second half behind the strength of their defense, rebounding, athleticism and hot shooting.
The Falcons only played eight players due to injuries but got contributions up and down in the scoreboard from everyone who was dressed. SIC was led by freshman big man Bryce Simpson who pumped in a season-best 15 points and 19 rebounds to lead the way. Freshman forward Kevon Williams was also impressive with 20 points, 8 rebounds and multiple highlight-reel dunks.
Freshman guard Brandon Anthony of Herrin added 16 points and 9 assists, Devin Rankin of Carmi contributed 16 points, Jermarco Burse chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Calen Banks of Cave-in-Rock finished with 11 points.
Peyton Edwards of Carmi added 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Amir Spann of Mt. Vernon had 5 points and 3 assists.
“This was a total team win,” said SIC Coach Sam Swinford. “The guys are really starting to play well together, and we are starting to gain some momentum.”
Falcons who have now won four games this season, return home on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest versus West Kentucky Community and Technical College.
