SIC Offers Online Creative Writing Class This Spring
Southeastern Illinois College is offering Introduction to Creative Writing (ENG 123) class in Spring 2026. The class will be online, so students can write from the comfort of their home on their own schedule. There will also be optional group meetings over the semester on campus and at southern Illinois landmarks to allow students to get to know one another, share their writing, and be inspired by nature. Whether a beginning writer or a published poet, a high school fan fiction lover or a retiree wanting to write a memoir, this course offers something for everyone.
Dr. Angie Mayfield, English instructor and Distance Learning Specialist at SIC, will be teaching the course. She is an award-winning writer and journalist and author of four books, including Love, Loss & Lunacy in a Small Town, and a monthly columnist for Boomer and Mules and More magazines. She and her husband Doug live in Hardin County and own Mayfield Farms in Fairfield and Elizabethtown, Illinois.
Creative Writing (ENG 123) begins January 12 and ends May 14, and registration is open now. There are no college pre-requisites to take the class. To register, call SIC Admissions at (618) 252-5400, ext. 4120, email advising@sic.edu, or current students can register on MySIC. Cost for the 3-credit class is $481 (tuition/fees). For questions about the class, email Dr. Mayfield at angie.mayfield@sic.edu.
