SIC Announces 2025–26 Student Government Leaders

Southeastern Illinois College recently announced its 2025–26 Student Government officers and senators following initiation last month.

The SIC Student Government serves as the official voice of the student body, helping fund student-run organizations, address student concerns, and propose changes that improve academic and campus life. Members also organize a variety of events throughout the year, from blood drives and political forums to video game tournaments and fundraisers.

“This year’s team is full of energy and new ideas,” said Dathan Case of Harrisburg, SIC Student Government President. “We’re focused on helping more students get involved on campus and continuing projects that make SIC a welcoming place for everyone.”

Executive officers are Dathan Case of Harrisburg, president; Lexi Hamblin of Norris City, vice president; Carson Van Dyke of Carrier Mills, treasurer; Avery Henderson of Harrisburg, student trustee; and Laura Behnke of Harrisburg, secretary. Jason Fitzgerald serves as the group’s advisor.

Student senators include Jace Coats of O’Fallon; Jonathan Carlton of Harrisburg; Gracie Cox of Ridgway; Jaleigh Sullivan of Enfield; Maddison Hepp of Rosiclare; Jaci Wood of Galatia; and Hallie-Kate Oldham of Eldorado.

“The Student Government is an essential part of our campus community,” said Jason Fitzgerald, SIC Student Government Advisor, who stepped into that role just this year.  “The senators serve as voices for their peers and bring new perspectives on further developing the SIC campus community into a welcoming, exciting environment where students can get the full experience of college, all while they themselves are developing skills in leadership, communication, philanthropy, and governance. I am honored to serve as their faculty advisor and fully support their efforts as they continue improving student life at SIC.”

The SIC Student Government is highly active in promoting student involvement and enhancing campus life. Over the years, members have helped with projects such as updating fitness center equipment, renovating the student lounge, painting a cafeteria mural, establishing the Leap Day Tornado Memorial, and working toward a new display honoring military veterans on campus.

Their latest project is a Hygiene Supply Drive for Freddie’s Pantry to help fellow students in need. Items needed include toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, bodywash, etc. Donations can be dropped off in the SIC Theatre Lobby through Dec. 1.
