Southeastern Illinois College Celebrates Top Scholars at Honors Night

Members of the Model Illinois Government (MIG) team were recognized for their outstanding performance as state champions. Jenny Pruitt was recognized for winning the Michaella K. Grounds Outstanding Delegate Award during the MIG competition in Springfield.

Mitchell Masterson of Carmi accepted the Outstanding Business Student Award from Kelsie Bond, Business Instructor.
(Listed in order of appearance, l-r) Dylan Comer of Carrier Mills was awarded George T. Dennis Memorial Scholarship. Earning the Dennis Allen Speech Scholarship was Meredith Wolf of Harrisburg. Sarah Birkla of Carmi was awarded the Catherine Oldham Memorial Scholarship. The awards were presented by Paul Cummins, SIC director of forensics.
Hannah Hefner of Harrisburg won the Warren & Noveta King-Priest Scholarship, awarded by Gina Sirach, SIC dean of academic services. Warren and Noveta King-Priest served as educators in Saline County for many years. They both had great appreciation of the value of education and believed that education was the key to independence and productivity. Throughout their lives, they had many opportunities to assist students in achieving educational success. At the time of their deaths, this award was established by their daughter to support a student from Saline County pursuing a degree in education.
Art students were invited to submit work in the Southern Illinois Intercollegiate Art Competition hosted at Shawnee Community College. SIC will be the host next year. Winners from the competition were recognized are (l-r): Ashlyn Owen of Carmi, Austin Ahrens of Ridgway and Autumn Pritchett of Galatia. Not pictured: Kelsey Kraper of Elizabethtown, Kirsten Heil of Carmi, Chelsea Van of Harrisburg, Gilbert Santos-Astorga of Carmi, Dylan Kuykendall of Crossville and Tasha Wallace of Harrisburg. The awards were presented by Sara DeNeal, SIC art instructor.
(Listed in order of appearance, l-r) Ashlyn Owen of Carmi was awarded the Austin & Doris Welch Art Scholarship and Autumn Pritchett of Galatia was awarded the John Bennewitz Memorial Art Scholarship and the Julie Fowler Orange Memorial Scholarship. These student artists displayed high academic standards and strong work ethic in the studio. The awards were presented by Sara DeNeal, SIC art instructor.
Stephanie Walle of Harrisburg was awarded the Eugene & Callie Walden Morris Scholarship by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Ryan Luce of Harrisburg accepted the Eva Gersbacher Memorial Biology Award from Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Luce also received one of two Sam Porter Freshman Chemistry Awards presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Hunter Ragan of Harrisburg received one of two Sam Porter Freshman Chemistry Awards presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Ragan also received one of two Gladys and Raymond Carroll Memorial Scholarships presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Meredith Wolf of Harrisburg received one of two Sam Porter Sophomore Chemistry Awards presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Nate Jones of Clarksville, Ind. also received one of two Sam Porter Sophomore Chemistry Awards presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Kathleen Lawler of Ridgway was awarded the Matthew J. Fry Memorial Scholarship by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Jeremy Hicks of Elizabethtown earned the Delta Shrine Club Scholarship, which was established in 1992 to assist students who graduated from Hardin County High School and were enrolled at SIC with high academic achievement. Kim Martin, SIC math instructor presented the scholarship.
Colton Edwards of Eldorado accepted the Eldorado Women’s Club Scholarship from Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Luke Marsh of Norris City received one of two Gladys and Raymond Carroll Memorial Scholarships presented by Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Chad Barger of Carrier Mills accepted the June Rice Malan Memorial Math Award from presenter Kim Martin, SIC math instructor.
Kyle DePriest of Harrisburg was selected for the C. R. Gardner Memorial Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair.
Kelsey Bartok of Eldorado accepted the Dorothy Helen Baldwin Harrisburg BPW Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair.
Justine Swartz of Vienna was selected for the Faye Mitchell Memorial Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair. The Faye Mitchell Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 to assist students who had an interest in pursuing a teaching or education-related degree.
Swartz also accepted the Joan Ferrell Memorial Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair.
Malayna Douglas of Harrisburg was selected for the Harry W. Abell Memorial Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair.
Kathleen Lawler of Ridgway was selected for the John and Audrey Coyle Scholarship presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair. The John and Audrey Coyle Scholarship is given in memory of Virginia Coyle.
Earning the College Club of Saline County Scholarship was Marcella Motsinger of Harrisburg, presented by Dr. Karen McClusky.
Jalisa Marsaw of Carrier Mills was awarded the Harrisburg Town and Country Lions Club scholarship, presented by David Port, SIC Foundation Chair.
Ashton Lee was selected for the John B. Dotson Memorial Scholarship presented by Sonny and Sherry Dotson.

Southeastern Illinois College held its annual Honors Night in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center. Hundreds of students, family and friends along with SIC faculty and staff converged to celebrate academic and extra-curricular achievements of the student body.

Not present to accept their awards were Peyton Robinson of Elizabethtown who was selected for the Rosiclare Chapter #971 Order of Eastern Star Scholarship, Brittny Banks of Harrisburg who earned the Michael Hillegas Chapter D.A.R. Scholarship, Lexie Hopkins of Elizabethtown who received the Harold Bauman Memorial Scholarship, Audrey Harris of Golconda who was awarded the Rodney J. Brenner Memorial Scholarship, Brennan Street of Harrisburg who was selected for the Wilma Hunter Memorial Scholarship, Jessica Owens of Golconda who was awarded the Dr. Warren Tuttle Memorial Scholarship and Peyton Boyd of Elizabethtown who earned the Maxine Theresa Hobbs Memorial Scholarship.
