Fire Science
Be a hero by becoming a trained firefighter!
If you enjoy a challenge, work well on a team, and want to make a difference in the community in which you live, firefighting could be the job for you! Often hailed as modern-day heroes, firefighters are usually the first ones on the scene of an emergency, whether it’s a house fire, commercial building fire, car accident, or natural disaster. Southeastern Illinois College’s Fire Science program prepares students to work in this important field by giving them the skills they need to succeed!
BASIC FIREFIGHTING CERTIFICATE
For students interested in getting a jump start on their career as a firefighter, the college offers the Basic Operations Firefighter certificate. This 12-credit-hour certificate takes students through the fundamentals of firefighting, including an overview of current fire science techniques, fire department organization, and fire support operations. And, if students choose to pursue additional education, all of these classes can be applied toward the Public Safety Management (AAS) degree at Southeastern.
