Welder from MBI Energy Returns to SIC to Encourage Students

A 2012 graduate of Southeastern Illinois College’s welding program, Logan Voyles of McLeansboro, was hired by MBI Energy Services, Inc. in Springfield as a stainless steel pipe welder.
Voyles, who now lives in Coffeen, Ill., came back to SIC this week to encourage welding students and give them some demonstrations on techniques, such as “walking the cup” or TIG welding on stainless steel tubing.
When asked if SIC prepared him for his job, he said, “Yes, Mark Thomas is a very good teacher, and (welding is) a good career to get in to.”
After explaining the technical aspects of the welding demonstrations, Voyles told students, “Never give up on something you like to do, and work hard in this class. It will pay off in the long run.”
