Google IT Support Professional Certificate Offered Fall 2020 at SIC

HARRISBURG, Ill. (July 6, 2020) – Southeastern Illinois College will again offer the Google IT Support Professional Certificate for the fall 2020 semester. SIC is the only college south of Champaign to provide students with this credential.
 
“The Google IT Support Professional Certificate program is an excellent opportunity for anyone to get a quick jumpstart into the world of Information Technology,” says Scott Reed, Information Technology Instructor at SIC.
 
The fully online program consists of five courses, culminating in the bestowment of the widely-recognized Google IT Support Professional Certificate. The program can be taken in tandem with Southeastern’s other IT programs, or as a lone program with the intent of an entry-level position in information technology. SIC, with support from Google.org, is proud to once again offer this opportunity to students.
 
“This certificate program introduces you to troubleshooting and customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, and security — all the fundamentals of IT support that are critical for success in the workplace. And, throughout the program, you’ll hear directly from Googlers whose own foundation in IT support served as a jumping off point for their careers,” according to the Google website.
 
“Learners have the opportunity this fall to take that knowledge further by pairing the Google IT Support Professional Certificate with IT Essentials.  IT Essentials and the Google IT Support Professional Certificate complement each other and provide two easily attainable certificates to build a resume,” Reed elaborates.
 
The program will begin August 17, culminating with finals in December 2020. Upon completion, students can opt to share their information directly with top employers hiring for IT support jobs, including many employers such as Walmart, Sprint, Hulu, and Google.
 
The certificate also recently secured a credit recommendation from the American Council on Education’s ACE Credit ®.
 
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, IT Support is projected to grow 10 percent between 2018 and 2028 and the median salary nationally is $53,470.
