Three Anna-Jonesboro Bowlers Join SIC Falcons
Anna-Jonesboro Community High School will have three of their graduates bowling for the Southeastern Illinois College Falcons this fall. Olivia Myers, Zach Miller, and Aden Hopkins (returning sophomore) signed their intent to bowl for the SIC team.
SIC Head Bowling Coach, Doug Cottom, had good things to say about each of these athletes.
“Olivia is someone we have had on the radar for several years now. She possesses a very strong game. As most players from the Anna-Jonesboro program, she is fundamentally sound, and that equates to adapting to the college game very quickly,” said Cottom. “We expect her to contribute right off the bat. SIC women’s coach Jeff Crowley is looking forward to having her in the mix.”
Cottom continued, “Zach came in to the picture rather late but nonetheless, I am glad he has chosen us. He’s a big, strong kid who can really rev it up. There will be a learning curve for him at the start but, he should fit in nicely with our group.”
As a returning player, Aden Hopkins was a “pleasant surprise” this year, according to Cottom.
“I have never seen a kid be more ready off the bench than Aden. Most kids take a half game to get going – not Aden! He stepped in and started striking very quickly,” said Cottom. He was our sixth man most of the season, but will push for more playing time next year, and we expect him to be in the starting rotation.”
The Falcon Bowling Team has been competing since 2018, besting Division I universities in regional competition as a member of the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate Bowling. Those interested in trying out for SIC’s 2022-23 men’s or women’s varsity teams is encouraged to contact Doug Cottom at doug.cottom@sic.edu or 618-841-4867. Scholarships and bowler incentives may be available.
