Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts
The Division offers courses to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of art, communication, foreign language, literature, music, philosophy, rhetoric and composition, and theatre. These specific studies are linked by a common emphasis upon personal accomplishment – aesthetic, linguistic, communicative and intellectual. Instruction is also provided in the areas of government, history, psychology and sociology.
The Division provides curricula leading to an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science degree, an Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre degree, and instruction in several pre-professional areas. The division’s faculty bring a broad range of experience and diversity to SIC, and are actively involved in numerous extracurricular student activities, including Student Government (SICSG), competitive teams, such as the award-winning Forensic Falcons and Model Illinois Government (MIG) team, plays, musicals, concerts, cultural arts, cultural and educational trips, as well as legislative simulations and field observations.
