If your passion is acting, SIC can help you develop those talents and prepare you to continue your education at a senior institution. The SIC Department of Theatre is an academic unit within the Department of Humanities, engaged in teaching, creative activity, and service.

We blend scholarship and practice into an academically-based theatre experience that provides students with broad-based exposure to the human experience and a sound foundation in the skills of theatre craft. Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge of performance, production, theatre history and literature, and contemporary practice in order to complete their education at a senior institution. Graduates will also be able to demonstrate intrapersonal and interpersonal skills in the form of leadership qualities, self-discipline, creative expression, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

The SIC Department of Theatre offers the right combination of theory, practice and imagination— an effective blend of academic work, production experience and creativity. Housed in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center in the heart of the Harrisburg campus, the Department combines the advantages of the personalized attention of smaller institutions while offering the wide range of performing experiences found in larger universities.   Tradition and excellence are hallmarks of theatre at SIC.  Our program offers our students a hands-on experience that is not available in many larger institutions.
At SIC, you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of two shows in the fall semester and two in the spring, including musicals and straight plays in the 450-seat theatre. You can also participate in our campus honor fraternity – Theta Sigma Phi which includes service projects, field trips to places such as New York and Chicago to see professional shows, and camaradarie with others who share your theatrical interests.
